Tile windows from the green button

The three coloured dots do more than close, minimise and maximise — hold the green one.

The three dots at the top left of every window map onto what Windows puts on the right, but in a different order: red closes, yellow minimises, green resizes.

Green is the interesting one. A plain click sends the window full screen into a space of its own. But hold the pointer over it without clicking and a menu drops down with tiling options: fill the left half, the right half, a corner, or return the window to its previous size.

Two notes that catch people out. Closing a window with the red button usually does not quit the app — it keeps running, and the Dock shows a dot under its icon. To actually quit, press + Q. And a window sent full screen moves to its own desktop, so swipe sideways with three fingers to come back.
